It’s Time for Dodger Baseball!

Posted by Steven Kennedy on April 16, 2009

To quote Vin Scully

And this Opening Day at Dodger Stadium Vin Scully got to say those words on camera in front of a crowd of 57,099, a new Dodger record, just after he’d thrown out the first ball to Joe Torre.

The Opening ceremonies included 16 year old Filipino singing sensation Charice who sang the National Anthem and a flyover of a B-2 stealth bomber, see picture below, and a really BIG flag that was displayed on the field by members of the Armed Services.

What do you mean you cannot see it! Of course you cannot, it’s a stealth aircraft! Actually, it was so bright I couldn’t see anything in my cameras view finder so I was just pointing and hoping, in vain as it turned out.

For this years Home Opener I had front row seats, almost. As you can see from the photo below, I was one row back in what we call the picnic seats, because they have a shelf for you to put your food and drinks on. Actually they’re more properly called Baseline Box seats. I had to shell out $160 for them but in addition to the seats you also get access to the First and Third baseline box club which has an all you can eat buffet and free soda’s.

The Dodgers home opener was against the their northern rivals, the San Francisco Giants. Pitching for them, the Giants, was Randy Johnson, the Big Unit.

Randy didn’t get to last to long, he was gone by the 4th, with the score at 7-1. Under normal circumstances Chad Billingsley, the Dodger starting pitcher, would have gotten MPV for the game having pitched seven good innings and only giving up a single run. However, Andre Ethier, belted two home runs but even that wasn’t enough to get MVP. On opening day, in front of a record setting crowd and after 39 years a Dodger hit for the cycle. Orlando Hudson in his first season for the Dodgers, in his first home game, hit for the cycle and in only six innings. The last Dodger to do so was Wes Parker in 1970. It’s only the second cycle to be hit at Dodger Stadium, the first by a Dodger.

The Dodgers went on to beat the Giants 11-1. All in all a very good day,

Tee Shirts

Posted by Steven Kennedy on April 4, 2008

Whilst at the season opener for the Dodgers I picked up a few tee shirts. Only one was free, the rest I had to pay for 😦

There were a number of special tee shirts for the Coliseum game and to celebrate this the 50th anniversary of the Dodgers coming to Los Angeles, in addition to the normal Opening Day tee shirts.
